Yggdrasill in a game set in Scandia, the land of modern day Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway. you can take on the roll of anything you can think of that was around at that time. The game is rather simple to pick up, but offers loads of options for play style.

Yggdrasill is a semi-class less game, I say semi, because when you are choosing gifts, which help make your character a bit more interesting, if you want to play either a caster or Berserker, one of your two gifts has to go to Initiate of Odin or Odin's Chosen respectively. Ultimately this doesn't hurt the game at all, but for people coming from other games of Cubicle 7 such as Qin, that needs to be noted. Aside from that the system is very open to both modifying as well as just customizing from the book alone. I especially like the Fate Runes system that helps adds depth to the character. The only thing I feel slightly takes away from this book is that the adventure at the back is pretty railroaded (linear) as written so a GM should read through it first and then make necessary changed to fit with that the group wants. Aside from that minor detail the game is solid and a lot of fun. If you want more in-depth info on this, I suggest looking up reviews via Google or YouTube.

Slickly Produced & Well Written

Even if you weren't going to run this game with the system right 'out of the box' the general ideas are pretty rich and decently detailed. Writing runs from reasonably clear and concise to evocative and the overall print quality of my particular book was fantastic! Maybe not a treasure trove of ideas, but certainly a good start. I bought this with a similarly themed product from another company and the Yggdrasill Core Book stood up well against the competition (which wasn't shabby in its own right).

Excellent book!

This is a great game with solid gameplay rules and filled with an amazing amount of detail.

I would give this game a five but for two reasons.
1) The book feels over priced for its size and the pages are sepia toned but still good looking none-the-less.

2) Your characters live to die and are very mortal.

A good game but not for everybody. Even if you never play the game its filled with excellent source material.

About the Author

David C. Brotherton�grew up in the East End of London, England. Dr Brotherton gained his doctorate in Sociology in 1992 and began work on street gang subcultures at UC Berkeley in the same year. In 1994, Dr Brotherton came to John Jay College of Criminal Justice at CUNY, where his research on youth resistance, marginalization and gangs led to the Street Organization Project in 1997. He has received research grants from both private and public agencies and has published widely in journals, books, newspapers and magazines. Dr Brotherton edits the Public Criminology book series at Columbia University Press and was named Critical Criminologist of the Year in 2011. He is currently Professor of Sociology at John Jay College and the Graduate Center, The City University of New York.

About the Author
Chris Prouty is the author of "Empress Taytu and Menilek II: Ethiopia 1883-1910". She shared the responsibilities of Foreign Service with her husband, Eugene Rosenfeld, while fulfilling speaking engagements, writing assignments, and participation in theatre activities in four countries. Eugene Rosenfeld was Director of the U.S. Information Service in Addis Ababa, which was one of the many USIA posts he held during his 35 years of government service. After four years as press attache at the Embassy in London, he retired to Washington in 1975.

Clear and Concise

I can hardly believe I am the first person to review this great book.

I attended Dr. Jonsen's presentation at the Founders of Bioethics Conference at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. As a complete novice to ethics, I was very impressed by the way he presented the facts of a case, engaged the ethical dilemma, and detailed the relevant ethical principles that led to a resolution. This book is no different.

The book is arranged into a series of questions under four topics: Medical Indications (the appropriate treatment given the patient's medical problem), Patient Preferences (patient autonomy, decisional capacity, prior declaration of preferences, surrogate decision-making), Quality of Life (especially the disconnect between a patient's self-reported quality of life and that judged by an outside agent such as the doctor or family member), and Contextual Features (the impact of family members, insurance companies, social health policy, religion, etc). The end of each chapter also includes a few notes about pediatric cases with references to other works for more in-depth coverage.

In the process of answering the five to ten broad questions under each of the Four Topics, the authors present a plethora of cases (both real and constructed) designed to reinforce the understanding of the ethical principles involved, showcase how a small change in details can change the resolution of an ethical dilemma, and challenge the reader to resolve the issues. The cases are set apart from the text by the use of a blue font, making them easy to find. Each case is followed by a Commentary wherein the authors elucidate the issues at hand and a Resolution detailing their conclusion for the case.

The book is replete with citations to other reference works, including text books, legal cases, web sites, and journal articles in the ethics or medical community. Fortunately, they are grouped at the end of each short section so as not to interrupt the text while reading (making the book friendlier for on-the-spot use) and to present the relevant citations immediately adjacent to the subject of concern. The book is also exhaustively indexed so you can quickly find the information you need by page number as well as section number.

As noted in the subtitle, this book is intended for physicians practicing clinical medicine. However, I, as a pharmacy student, have still found the book to be well worth my time and money for explaining and exploring the issues that arise in the practice of medicine.

The One Idispensible Guide

Jonson and Winslade have provided us with the one indispensible guide to hospital biomedical ethics. I have served on three ethics committees since 1982, and have taught hospital biomedical ethics to physicians, nurses and clergy, This text is universally appreciated for its clarity, lucidity and authority. To attempt the discipline without this text is to be less than completely competent.

Must have for watch and clock lovers

I read the second edition of the book, which extends into the 1980s and mentions Swatch and the nascent resurgence of Swiss mechanical watches as luxury pieces. Apparently the first edition ends on a dour note about the quartz watch as the end of time.

Some reviewers are right that this is a weighty tome and may not be fast reading for everyone. However, the level of detail and research is outstanding.

The author is a Harvard professor of economics and history, and as such applies intellectual rigor which you just don't find in online blogs, books written by journalists, or PR from the watch industry. At the same time he keeps the prose flowing and has plenty of funny bits thrown in as well.

The book covers the period of 1300 - 1980. It concerns itself with three things:

1. How was time measured? How did the devices used to measure time evolve? The quest for precision is here.
2. Why did we want to measure time? How did our culture evolve? This is very interesting: religion, industry, railroads, etc.
3. How did the timekeeping manufacturing and industry evolve? From ancient tower clock smiths to the modern Swiss conglomerates.

The author focuses on the most fundamental advances and trends in all of these areas. As a result, he actually omits some brands and personages which loom large for modern watch lovers, such as Rolex, or more surprisingly, Breguet (they are mentioned mostly in passing). However, there is plenty of detail around the quest to measure longitude and the invention of the marine chronometer, and the evolution of watch escapements (this all was a British tour de force). Or the larger trends and interplay between British, French, Swiss, and later American and Japanese watch industries. Even Patek and Vacheron are written about mostly in the early industry discussions rather than as contributors to horology because, as it turns out, the first perpetual calendar was made by Mudge in Britain, who also invented the level escapement which is in most watches to this day.

Fascinating if you like clocks, watches, or time measurement

This is the only book I've ever run across that covers horology (study of time measurement), and is therefore quite interesting. Covers time measurement three ways: (1) How did we get better and better at measuring time - how do mechanical clocks and watches work and what were the innovations that made them better? (2) Who made these devices and why - major clockmakers and 'houses', people who innovated, politics and national competition, rivalries, etc. and (3) Why did we decide to measure time at all, and what are many of the diverse impacts this has had on society, especially as we measure and control time and our own personal punctuality?
I've read this book several times, and enjoyed it each time.
Cons: It only really covers mechanical time measurement, although there is one chapter on modern timekeeping with quartz crystals, atomic clocks, and so on. This is history, not a study of the current state. But that's fine; no one but physicists really understands the frontier of current time measurement.

Great book, absolutely fascinating.

I have not finished the book but I have no reservation in recommending it. It is well written, extremely interesting, detailed without being boring and the author appears to have done a huge amount of research in his creation of this work. Having read only sporadically about the development of the modern concept of time, our present extreme need and addiction to knowing what o'clock it is anywhere, and the essential nature of time as a part of our understanding of life and of the universe -- I think this is a fascinating and superbly well done book. It does not overwhelm the reader with details which may be valuable to the scientist but difficult for the layman. If you are an average reader who enjoys history and trying to understand the complexity of our being and world this book will please you.

About the Author
Parker J. Palmer is a highly respected writer, lecturer, teacher, and activist. His work speaks deeply to people in many walks of life, including education, medicine, religion, law, philanthropy, the public sector, and social change. Author of seven books, including the bestsellers Let Your Life Speak and A Hidden Wholeness, his writing has been recognized with ten honorary doctorates and a number of national awards. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley and lives in Madison, Wisconsin.

A Must for Every Teacher

Parker Palmer is one of my favorite writers. This is a book to listen to at least once a year (if you're a teacher). It's inspiring and reminds me of what's truly important in the classroom, especially after a semester with a bunch of disgruntled, self-entitled students. I consider it almost a self-help book, one that keeps me passionate about teaching even when teaching is getting me down.

I must say a lot of people have majorly misunderstood Palmer in this book. It's important to read carefully and NOT box Palmer in with the "let students do anything they want at all in the classroom even if they learn nothing, so they can 'find themselves'" crowd. He does not promote that. I admit his language comes across as kind of "hippy" sometimes, but if you really consider his IDEAS, he is not a pushover or an over-permissive free-for-all-ist at all. He just thinks teaching is relational, and ideas are important, and can help us build relationships. I think he's right. And I'm glad he writes!

The intellectual, emotional and spiritual depths of teaching

Remarkable teachers, Palmer believes, are a pragmatic lot who do whatever it takes and often fail. Along the way they may find themselves begging, cajoling, and expressing their own gratitude, fearfulness, and ignorance. All of them eschew mere technique and aspire to make their teaching an intensely spiritual experience: they allow teaching to transform their innermost selves. Palmer's challenge to each educator is to acknowledge that knowing one's students and knowing one's subject requires the deepest self-knowledge. What is required is nothing less than an unflinching commitment to live out in the classroom a painful Socratic examination of one's own life.
This indeed requires a courageous willingness to make oneself vulnerable. But what exactly is involved, and what is the payoff? Thankfully, Palmer's analysis avoids the fuzzy metaphors (and half-baked metaphysics) that spoil many contemporary "new age" visions of the role of spirituality in public life. Palmer, who was trained in philosophy, religion, and sociology, provides many specific examples. His most conventional claim is that modelling Socratic examination allows teachers to inspire their students to construct deeply fulfilling lives. He also argues that a Socratic entanglement of a teacher with her subject causes a passionate engagement more helpful than any bureaucrat's assessment instrument. Palmer draws on anecdotes--from kindergarten teachers to medical school professors, from shop teachers to physicists--to make his case. These anecdotes provide constructive solutions to many of the most painful problems teachers face and make plausible Palmer's vision of the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual depths of a life committed to teaching and learning.

Anything by Parker J. Palmer is a MUST HAVE! Great insights presented clearly and concisely. The book and the concepts therein gave me quite a lot to reflect upon and I read it over time several times. I got something more and of greater depth every time.

Todos los libros que van de esta serie han sido buenos, todos me han gustado, pero este ha ido un poco mas alla, ha estado maravilloso.

La historia de Robert y Amelia, me mantenido enganchada de principio a fin.

Una historia de dos personajes rotos, que han sufrido mucho y perdido todo, hasta que se conocen y cada uno se convierte en la luz, en la razon de vivir del otro.

La parte turistica del libro me ha encantado, Grecia y sus alrededores, ha estado genial.

Casi siempre en las historias el hombre tiene que luchar por estar con la mujer y ganarse su amor, aqui Amelia tiene que luchar por Robert y sacarlo de esa depresion, demostrandole su amor y lo valioso que es, un trabajo dificil cuando tu autoestima ha sido pisoteada por la persona que mas ha debido amarte.

Amelia lleva su propia cruz, Robert le devuelve las ganas de vivir tras perder las personas que mas amaba.

Intagible es la historia de dos personas que por circunstancias de la vida viven en la oscuridad, y el amor les devuelve la luz.

Y por supuesto la parte de humor no se podia quedar cuando se juntan todos los amigos y se gastan sus bromas.

Que mas puedo decir que no diga esta palabra MAGNIFICA, esta saga esta maravillosa y me tiene enganchada. Robert mi amor platonico a la de ya!!! Pero que Don tiene Susana Mohel para escribir. RECOMENDADA AMPLIAMENTE AL IGUAL QUE LAS DEMAS. Me hizo suspirar, so�ar y creer que el amor siempre es mas fuerte que nada y todo lo puede. Me ah hecho saber que la amistad tiene que estar cimentada en el amor y respeto. About the Author
David M. Levine is one of the world's leading innovators in statistics education. He is Professor Emeritus of Statistics and Computer Information Systems at Bernard M. Baruch College (CUNY), and co-author of several best-selling books, including "Statistics for Managers using Microsoft Excel, Quality Management," and "Six Sigma for Green Belts and Champions,"

DID NOT COME WITH CODE for MYSTATLAB

this book was purchased new should have included code for mystat lab. I would have purchased a used book had I know.....Lesson Learned

Decent Text-Book for Entry Level Grad Course

Book was adequate for a 7 week statistics course in graduate school (MBA). Enough problems to practice. Not all problems have answers that are available, I would have liked to be able to check my work a little more. Would never consider buying it or paying full price. Rental is the way to go.

The Bronnikov collection was made exclusively for police use, to further the understanding of the language of these tattoos and to act as an aid in the identification and apprehension of criminals in the field. Unimpeded by artistic aspirations, these amazing vernacular photographs present a seemingly straightforward representation of criminal society. Every image discloses evidence of an inmate’s character: aggressive, vulnerable, melancholic, conceited. The prisoners’ bodies display an unofficial history waiting to be deciphered, told not just through tattoos, but also in scars and missing digits. Yet close inspection seems only to make the language of the tattoos more baffling and incredible, pointing to the unimaginable lives of this previously unacknowledged caste.

great supplement to the other Russian Criminal Encyclopedia books. If you've read the other ones there's not much new info,,,but as I am a collector of such info, this book was right up my alley. nice pics...detailed explanations in parts of the book, I would definitely recommend this book but only if you are a completest.
