Friends and Family needed direction

I have read the book. It was easy reading, took notes and felt I had a reminder course on my spiritual journey while in this earth existence. I have now shared the book to a family member who also needed a bible while reading the book. We either reminders or awakening. Depending upon the person's level of awareness and/or constant communicating with God/The Creator of All Things; this book will awaken those who are lost and revive those who have forgotten life and living in a spiritual existence which prepares us for eternity. Bijal Shah's Power Guide to Managing Anxiety is an extremely comprehensive guide on anxiety. The guide details advice on the various types of anxiety disorders that exist, the different talking therapies available, and helpful case studies illustrating how various people cope with the disorder. The celebrity case studies were also very insightful.

It also included other people's life stories which was very helpful. Highly recommended for anyone struggling with anxiety or know someone who is. It is enlightening!

A MUST READ for EVERY WOMAN

Open your eyes and see the real issues - Nickie Roberts tells you what all women today have needed to hear (and understand.) This is the best history book I've ever read because it tells you truths you'll never see in traditonal male-written stories. She's right on and I hope she continues to expose the lies. It is one of my favorite books I give women who I think are smart and can make a difference in this world.

P.S. It's "prostitution", not "prositution"... educate yourself on what that really means.

Superb in All Respects--Should be Reprinted & Updated

Let me start the review where the book ends, with a United Nations quote that says that women do two thirds of the world's work, twice as much as the men, while receiving only 10% of the income. Bottom line: selling their bodies, on their terms, is the fastest, best route for women to what the author summarizes as better pay, easier working conditions, and greater autonomy than that achieved by most women as wives in captivity to one man, more often than not as property rather than as an equal.

I have a note to myself early on that in whoredom (harlot, coutesan--my preferred term) women are on a level playing field with men, unlike ANY other profession or calling.

The author, herself a Soho hooker who wrote The Front Line, has scoured English, French, and other sources, 154 of them to be exact, and I am enormously impressed by her combination of detailed historical review, personal insight, and gifted articulation.

Perhaps the most important point, both a thread across the book and a conclusion at the end, is that feminists have no clue--they have bought into the male condemnation of whores as "bad girls," and do not realize that the self-directed whore is the ultimate winner across all fields, especially when they acquire enough in savings to retire to the profession or trade of their choice in their late twenties or early thirties--all without having to deal with drunken husbands, household slavery, or unwanted children--indeed, many retire into wifedom but on their terms, with their money, and the man of their choice.

+ Women in history have provided 65% of the food gathering, and the related tools
+ Temple priestesses were first goddesses *and* the first whores
+ Author has a thread throughout that whores are compassionate and a civilizing influence on society, tempering the lust and healing the wounded (throughout, whores have also been nurses, actresses, and companions).
+ Double-standard has existed since time immemorial, and even great philosophers, including Rosseau, have treated women as property.
+ Jews and the Old Testament sought to place all women as the property of a man--the author is brutal on Jews, on the Catholic Church, on Protestants, and on Puritans, each in turn rising well beyond the previous in witch hunts, humiliations, and abuses against all women.
+ Dictators, especially Solon, turned "wives" into virtual slaves, under house arrest, with no education
+ Author draws the direct choice as between wife/slave and whore/equal and independent.
+ Author's historical review stresses that the great whose of time have been courtesans who were an elite, the full companions of nobles and the wealthy, free, intellectual, witty, and good at business.
+ Whores have typically been TRAINED, not only in sex, but in the arts and sciences sufficient to thrust and parry with any educated man
+ Emperors and Kings overtime have been among the most depraved and libertine, many striken with syphillis, many with homosexual or pedophilic cravings
+ Mutual solidarity among whores is a recurring theme
+ Author states that the Catholic Church in particular set humanity back thousands of years in its ignorant and indiscriminate condemnation of all that it feared or did not understand
+ Page 93 is a lovely list of street names that represent the overt and broad influence of whores on society: Codpiece Alley, Gropecunt Street, Slut's Hole, Cuckold Court, Whore's Nest--all real streets in the history of London--similar names are provided for France and Germany.
+ The author excells at "naming names" of both nobles who consorted with whores, and of the "great" whores of all time, many of them naturally English
+ The author brings out a thread of middle-class wives taking up prostitution, generally part-time or occasional, as a means of gaining some form of independent means.
+ 17th Century introduced sadism, 18th Century brought forth all manner of specialty debauchery.
+ Throughout history, lesbianism, homosexuality, and bisexuality have been common and generally accepted
+ The criminalization of the sex trade dramatically increased the spread of disease, but the author notes that there is no record in modern history of a whore spreading a disease, that it is the customer who is ignorant and must be educated about the vital need for condoms
+ Extreme poverty inevitably increases the number of women (and sometimes children) who turn to prostitution
+ Police consistently blackmail and abuse whores and their madams
+ 18th Century math: whore earns $50 a week, working women $1 a week
+ 19th Century brought us the psychic castration of women, idea that women could not have sexuality
+ She blows away the white slave trade myth
+ 20th Century, Rockefeller and others, destroyed prospects for women who sought to be independent whores
+ Today 70% of the whores are middle class women declaring their independence from hypocritical or overly dominating structures, *and* escort services for women are increasing
+ Street whoring is antithetical to common crime

I end this review with a quote from page 339, citing Carol Leigh alias Scarlot Harlot, "Sex work is nurturing, healing work. It could be considered a high calling. Prostitutes are great women, veritable priestesses."

A Very Good Social History of the "Oldest Profession"

Roberts admirably shows the human dimension of countless women shunned and abused for centuries, yet who traditionally have made more money selling their bodies than they ever could have made at "legitimate" work, even today. Roberts advocates the de-criminalizing of prostitution, and she ably convinced me in doing so. But her book came out just after the fall of Soviet Communism, and the book begs for updated chapters dealing with the massive and horrendous problem of forced sexual slavery faced by well over a million women and girls from Eastern Europe alone since 1991. This clearly is not what Roberts intended, and she should discuss how people and governments might combat sexual slavery, a much bigger problem internationally since her book was first published, while advancing the cause of emancipating free agent sex workers.

Be ready for Drop-D tuning if your bass can support it.

Overall, very good, and I would recommend. However, a few things to know/understand before you buy.

1. Only one of these movements takes standard E-A-D-G tuning.

2. Tune to D-A-D-G. This may be an issue for you if you have a short scale bass, or a whimpy 105 E string or smaller gauge.

3. None of these are in their true key-signatures. They have truly been "adapted" to bass. That said, you can't really "play along" since you will be in the wrong key.

Again, this is GOOD. But be prepared. This probably should have been written for a 5-String Bass, but I appreciate the effort to adapt for 4-String.

It was a disappointment. Each score featured a detuning of the E string to D. I'm not a professional. I purchased to book for training. It was just not what I needed.

9800 Savage Road

9800 SAVAGE ROAD starts out a little awkward, like the first time I drove a manual transmission. IT'S WORTH STICKING WITH because it offers an intriguing, plausible explanation as to why Bin Ladin's minions could not be deterred before 911, and who was the main target of the subsequent anthrax attacks. Folks who want a peek behind the scenes will love it. Harrigan takes an ill advised poke at the FBI who would undoubtedly know that people generally do not commit suicide naked. However, readers can chalk that up to competitive mind sets among U.S. alpha sleuths. That aside, the work reads like good thrillers should. Faster page turning until you cannot wait to learn the ending. It's a great read for her first time up to bat. I give her all four bright and shining stars.

NSA Exposed

I feel the beginning was a little tedious as the author goes on to explain some of the workings and titles of people who run the NSA. Fact or fiction I am not sure if we need to know they use alphabet speak for DIRNSA or SIGINT, etc. There was some time spent on character development whose character never played an integral part of the story. Once the plot started to unfold the story read very quickly. Although we know the outcome and the culmination of September 11, 2001, could this happen? We will never know, but who would have believed a terrorist massacre could occur at Fort Hood, TX. Fact or fiction or a superb blend, 9800 Savage Road is a good read.

No Such Agency

I am not a particularly avid reader, but I could not put this book down. I am very interested in non-fiction espionage, and despite the NSA's assertion they do not exist (NSA = NO SUCH AGENCY)I found it rather intriguing this is the first published book by a former employee. It is a thriller from cover to cover. Grips you at the start and leaves you "can't waiting" for the next chapter. I can't wait for the movie. Its right up there with Marathon Man. Gary Clark

Bought because of the 5-star rating

I was expecting a condensed 7-Habits or some nuggets of wisdom/shortcuts for being more effective at work/life. But several of the articles were commonsensical advice, for example (I paraphrase) "prioritize your work/family/friends", "don't neglect your physical/emotional energy", "live healthier and be more organized to combat attention deficiency".

Only three of the articles, including Christensen's, were personally entertaining and useful reads, out of the eleven total articles.

If you find your energy lacking at work, or you can't properly prioritize your work/personal life, then this should be helpful to you.

Good read but sometimes incoherent with the central message

This book has some wonderful articles that anyone can learn from. Personally I have taken to reading a few articles more than once e.g. "How will you measure your life by Clayton M. Christensen" and have gained some key insights I think I want to apply to my own life. On the other hand, some other articles talk more about the role of leadership which I do not think necessary or they use examples which aren't relevant to the central topic of self-management but rather people-management. These articles are oft cliche and may fail to appeal to a wide range of people who I think may be reading this book e.g. non-CEO's et cetera.

The basic premise of Justin Menkes's book is simple: just as math problems require a certain kind of quantitative intelligence, or relationships require the delicacy of emotional intelligence, strong business leadership rests on executive intelligence. Menkes has worked as an organizational consultant for an impressive roster of blue-chip companies--the CEOs of Gillette, Amgen, and Tyco offer their praise on the back cover of Executive Intelligence--and his experience shows in this thought-provoking volume. Clearly patterned after Daniel Goleman's Emotional Intelligence, the seminal book that explained a theory of multiple intelligences which might leave a person highly expert in one area but surprisingly deficient in others, Executive Intelligence provides a helpful analysis of the cognitive abilities which define strong leaders.

Menkes starts his book by breaking down the different components of executive intelligence. He argues that conventional behavioral frameworks which try to prescribe rote behaviors fail for leadership coaching, due to the need for customized solutions based on the specific circumstances of each business and leader. Instead, the best executives benefit from critical thinking, which helps them gather, process, and apply information to reach goals and navigate complex situations.

Three key areas of this executive intelligence receive significant attention through the book's 17 chapters. The first centers on tasks, and executives' ability to identify problems, devise solutions, and exercise good judgment in pursuing those solutions. The second area of intelligence is social, and revolves around executives' management of relationships with others. Intriguingly, Menkes does not view the social component of executive intelligence as "charisma", or a "good personality", per se; more important than those qualities, he argues, is the ability to see others' viewpoints, to be able to balance among competing views, and to communicate effectively. The third area of executive intelligence is more inwardly focused on leaders themselves, on their abilities to learn from their mistakes, and to adjust behavior to avoid repeating them. In each of these sections, readers will find a mix of real-world examples from the experiences of Fortune 500 leaders like Gillette's Jim Kilts or AOL's Jon Miller, and more theoretical arguments grounded in review of other management books and business-review articles.

The potential audience for Executive Intelligence is large: it includes executives and aspiring executives, of course, but also those who must coach or evaluate leaders, and scholars focused on leadership development. On the heels of bestsellers about emotional intelligence and multiple intelligences have come titles on moral, cultural, social and visual intelligence. Consultant Menkes introduces the concept of executive intelligence, which he characterizes as "a blend of critical aptitudes that guide an individual's decision-making process and behavioral path." Menkes collects terrific first-person anecdotes of corporate failure and success, but the stories don't necessarily prove what he wants them to. With 20/20 hindsight, he attributes every setback—whether caused by shortsightedness, venality, stubbornness or simple bad timing—to some CEOs "severe lack of Executive Intelligence." And of course, EI gets credit for every decision that happened to pan out. The book's second half convincingly debunks time-honored techniques for assessing executive acumen and abilities; researchers, Menkes argues, "have for too long been enamored with attributes, such as personality and style, that are only tangentially related to how well executives actually do their job." But the author's surprisingly skimpy research doesn't clinch his case for replacing traditional hiring practices with EI-focused interviews. And it doesn't help that Menkes is unclear whether EI is ingrained or learned. Are we stuck with the EI we were born with, or is it something we can work on? Good exploration of mental faculties

This is a solid read for executives and those that aspire to reach executive heights. The exploration of intelligence vs. Knowledge is one that has been around for centuries, and this text provides some good ideas to use in moving the conversation forward in today's board rooms. Definitely worth the read. Flooded with real world examples that solidify Menkes points and gives confidence in his conclusions.

If you ever wondered why some executives hit the mark whilst others display great people skills, or appear intelligent whilst failing to deliver, "Executive Intelligence" will clarify what, deep down you already knew.

My one criticism of the book is the middle third spends too much time proving why other assessment methods are not as good - skip this section!

Meh, nothing new here.

The book is ok, however.......all of this has been discussed by her father, Dave Ramsey, for years. I applaud Rachel for giving these topics a younger, fresher view, but there is nothing new in the book.

I do follow Dave's baby steps, and it's a great plan. I just don't feel like Rachel said anything mind-blowing here. I was duped $15 for stuff I can hear on the Dave Ramsey radio program for free.

A Fresh Take - Rachel Emerges From the Shadow

TL;DR: Tried and true concepts, fresh take and easily digestible. Highly recommended.

The book offers a fresh take on some of the core concepts taught by her father Dave Ramsey but with a focus on money habits. At the heart of the book is the message to "not keep up with the Jonses" which is especially difficult in this modern social-media driven world. It feels fresh and has some new ideas but at the core remains the stuff that works (would be somewhat strange for her to depart on that). I love Dave's advice but some people find him a bit too, um... blunt? sassy? And some find his religious and political leanings (which sometimes show in his writing and often show in his speaking) off-putting. I have no problem with either but Rachel is two notches down on sass and one notch down on religion. I didn't detect anything overtly political in the book at all. So the core concepts and the fresh take may be the most palatable presentation of the material to the widest audience yet.

The only criticism I have is that it felt a bit repetitive in spots. She even says in several passages "I know we've covered this before but...". I'm a fan of short and simple - 50 pages less and the book would have been really perfect.

I give the content, presentation and style a solid 4.5 (out of 5) stars and Rachel earns the round-up for providing so much awesome free content on her YouTube channel and other social media outlets. She has stood in the long shadow of her dad for some time - in recent years you can see her peek out and with this book I feel like she finally walks far enough ahead to begin casting her own shadow.

Note: I picked up the Kindle Version which is nicely formatted and was a pleasure to read. No obvious typos or other graphical glitches except the very top of each of the major chapter breaks was cropped (literally the word HABIT was just a few pixels above the top of my Kindle DX which affected nothing in the actual reading).

Read the book and change your perspective

Awe haw- that describes so many moments I had while reading Love Your Life Not Theirs by Rachel Cruze. Where was this book when I was a newlywed! We have all been there- newly wed and broke and the pressure to keep up with what everyone else has and does (aka keeping up with the Jones). When our parents were Newleyweds they only had the joneses in their neighborhood- my generation has the jones on twitter, Instagram and Facebook. The stories Rachel shares are relatable and inspiring. As I was reading this book I reflected on her main points of finding contentment in where you are in life, making a plan for your future and giving.

Quotes-
"You always remember people in your life who care about you celebrate you and comfort you. Invest your time in people like this. More importantly strive to be that type of person yourself".

In regards to social media Rachel shares the trap of keeping up with the Jones
"I was chasing someone else's life instead of enjoying my own. I was letting someone I had never met influence not only how I was going to spend my money but how I was going to spend my life"

"And what I have come to realize is when we start comparing ourselves to other people we're playing a game we will never win"

"When you get caught up in social media comparisons you're comparing yourself to make believe. And when you compare yourself to make believe your real life will never feel good enough"
